Dead Battery? We’ll Get You Moving Again

Turn the key and get nothing but a click, slow crank, or no response at all?

Blue Gray Towing provides 24/7 battery jump starts for cars, work trucks, fleet vehicles, and commercial vehicles throughout Western Maryland and South-Central Pennsylvania.

When you call, tell dispatch what you’re driving, where you’re located, and what happens when you try to start the vehicle. We’ll send roadside help for the jump, and if the vehicle still won’t start, our light-, medium-, and heavy-duty towing fleet is available to take the next step.

Why Car Batteries Die

Knowing some of the common causes can help explain why a vehicle that started normally before suddenly doesn’t have enough power to start again.

Extreme Heat or Cold

Extreme temperatures can expose a weak or aging battery. Cold weather reduces available starting power, while prolonged heat can accelerate battery wear.

Infrequent use

Vehicles that sit unused for long stretches gradually lose their charge. Parasitic electrical draws, an aging battery, and too little driving time to recharge eventually leave the vehicle unable to start.

Corrosion & Dirty Terminals

Corrosion around battery terminals can interfere with the electrical connection needed to start the vehicle. White, blue, or green buildup can contribute to slow cranking or a no-start condition.

Lights or Accessories Left Running

Leaving headlights, interior lights, chargers, or other accessories running while the engine is off can drain enough power to prevent the next start.

Charging System Problems

A jump start won’t solve an underlying charging-system problem. If the alternator isn’t properly recharging the battery, the vehicle may start with a jump only to lose power or refuse to start later.

What Happens After We Jump the Battery?

If the battery simply lost its charge, a successful jump may be enough to get you moving again. Once the engine is running, avoid shutting it off immediately. Keep in mind that a jump start gets the vehicle running; it doesn’t tell you why the battery lost its charge or guarantee that it will restart later.

If the vehicle won’t take a jump, dies again shortly afterward, or shows signs of another electrical or mechanical problem, forcing repeated jump attempts isn’t the answer. Blue Gray can provide towing when the vehicle needs further diagnosis or repair.

Jump Starts Aren’t Just for Cars

Blue Gray’s roadside service isn’t limited to passenger vehicles. We provide jump start assistance for cars and SUVs, pickup trucks, diesel pickups, work trucks, box trucks, RVs and motorhomes, service vehicles, fleet units, and commercial trucks.

Larger vehicles may use multiple batteries or different electrical systems than a passenger car, so tell dispatch exactly what you’re driving when you call. That helps us understand what the vehicle requires before roadside help arrives.
