Semi-Truck Decking & Undecking Service

Semi-Truck Decking & Undecking for Fleet Moves

Moving several tractors at once takes more coordination than a standard truck move. Units may need to be decked for outbound transport, undecked after delivery, repositioned within a yard, or handled differently when one of the tractors doesn’t run.

Blue Gray Towing provides semi-truck decking and undecking throughout Western Maryland and South-Central Pennsylvania. We work on planned multi-unit moves as well as jobs involving non-running tractors, difficult positioning, or decked combinations that need additional towing or recovery support.

If a tractor won’t run or can’t be positioned normally, we can handle the towing or recovery work as part of the job rather than leaving the fleet to arrange it separately.

When a Tractor Move Doesn’t Go as Planned

A non-running tractor, shifted combination, limited yard space, or positioning problem can change what was supposed to be a straightforward move. Blue Gray can help when:

A non-running tractor can’t be positioned normally

A decked combination shifts during transport

Limited yard space makes loading or positioning difficult

Units need to be repositioned for service or inspection

Securement or positioning problems prevent a move from continuing

A decked combination requires towing or recovery support

Decking, Undecking & Tractor Repositioning

Blue Gray provides support at different stages of a multi-unit tractor move, from getting trucks positioned and prepared to separating units after they reach their destination.

Services include:

Decking tractors for outbound transport

Undecking piggybacked tractors

Loading and off-loading support

Truck staging and yard positioning

Repositioning for service or inspection

Multi-unit transport preparation

Winching and controlled movement of non-running units

Getting Non-Running Tractors Into Position

A disabled truck, limited maneuvering room, or the way units are positioned in a crowded yard can make loading, unloading, or separating tractors more difficult.

Blue Gray Towing can use heavy wreckers and substantial winching capability to reposition non-running units when necessary. When a tractor or other unit needs to leave the property rather than simply be repositioned, we also operate a Landoll, RGN lowboy, and two drop-deck trailers for transport.

When a Decked Combination Needs Heavy Recovery

Problems can also happen after the tractors are already on the move. A decked combination may shift, become unstable, leave the roadway, or be involved in an accident that requires the units to be recovered before they can be separated or transported.

Blue Gray’s heavy recovery fleet includes 35- and 50-ton rotators, heavy wreckers, and substantial winching capability for demanding commercial recoveries. Our operators have training through WreckMaster, TIMS, Miller Rotator School, and Whopper Certification for heavy towing and recovery work.

Once the combination is recovered, we can also provide the heavy duty towing, repositioning, or transport needed for units that can’t continue.
